Assault on private home ownership
First of all, I like to say so far there is no assault on private home ownership in California. With the crazy thinking in the one-party California legislature and the California judicial system, it is certainly on horizon.
You’re probably wondering what I’m talking about. I’m saying a California court case in Alameda County. Normally, crazy lawsuits are thrown out by a judge at the initial hearing long before they ever the inside of a courtroom. Some women who broke into a home in Alameda County are are refusing to leave.
Assault on private home ownership
It’s alleged, that these women broke into a private home in West Oakland, California, and have refused to leave. In the old days, actions like this would be called breaking and entering and would be dealt with swiftly by the police. Since this is California, many things that seem like simple common sense in other states, are totally different here.
For me personally if these alleged acts are true, it seems incredible that this would even get to a courtroom. Plus, it’s been reported that several elected officials in Oakland, California are actually supporting these women.
The group that has occupied the home is stating that this is a civil rights issue and they’re fighting against big banks and real estate speculators. You may agree or disagree with their contentions, the taking of personal property and the allegation made by the group. They say that unless the owner sells the property at a fraction of its cost to the organization, or gives it back to the community, they will remain in the property. In my opinion only, the is the unlawful taking of private property.
The whole bay area is in a terrific affordable housing crisis. My opinion is, these are things that have to be worked out through local elected officials, whether that be the city, County or state governments.
This California bay area story has caught the attention of some major news outlets. As I said before, in any other state, actions like this would have never reached this level. The affordable housing crisis in the bay area cannot be solved by sanctioning unlawful actions. Unless there is a swift and common-sense decision handed down, the taking of private property by individuals will put the California real estate market into a real tailspin.
