A few weeks ago, a college student sent me an e-mail inquiring about what steps she might take in considering entering into residential real estate as a career.

I’ve republished my reply to this student below, in hopes that it may provide useful insights into others who are considering entering into residential real estate:

I would recommend that you contact a local major national real estate franchise such as Century 21. They usually have training classes at little or no cost to people like yourself. This is a good way to see if residential real estate is right for you. Naturally, depending on your location, a lot of these franchise training classes are offered on the weekends and or evenings.

Each state has its own rules and regulations and set forms that are necessary to properly put together a real estate transaction. None of these forms or rules are overly complicated, and you should be able to master them in a very short time.

The real success in real estate comes mainly from understanding the psychology involved in transaction and how to properly address each one of the common obstacles both buyers and sellers raise. Then, if you have good organizational and time management skills, combined with properly applied technology to get your message out to the public, you will be a success!

Learn the basics first and then apply your own personality and people skills.

Please feel free to contact me anytime you have additional questions or concerns.

Happy holidays and much success in your future career!
