What it Looks Like Right Before a Depression Starts . . .
It’s almost not worth even looking back 100 years ago.. we still had a gold backed currency in the 1920’s.
Great Depression
There was no QE. Rates were never manipulated to the extent they are today. Nobody has a clue what is going to happen when.. this is very much uncharted territory there’s no historical precedent to look back on.
Before the Great Depression—Bankers could gamble with depositors money——After the Great Depression, Glass Steagall Act 1933 enacted, Bankers not able to gamble with depositors money—-Glass Steagall Repealed or neutralized 1999 by Bill Clinton, Bankers could gamble with depositors money…Once Again——–Greater Depression for US Now.
There are some similarities between today’s economy and the economy before the Great Depression. For example:
- Rising inflation: Inflation is at a 40-year high in the United States. In the years leading up to the Great Depression, inflation was also rising.
- Asset bubbles: There are concerns that asset bubbles are forming in some markets, such as the stock market and the housing market. Asset bubbles can lead to financial crises, which can in turn lead to recessions.
- Income inequality: Income inequality is at a high level in the United States. In the years leading up to the Great Depression, income inequality was also high.
However, there are also some important differences between today’s economy and the economy before the Great Depression. For example:
- Financial regulation: The financial system is much more regulated today than it was in the 1920s. This makes it less likely that a financial crisis will occur.
- Social safety net: The social safety net is also much more extensive today than it was in the 1920s. This means that people are less likely to fall into poverty in the event of a recession.
Overall, it is difficult to say definitively whether today’s economy is similar to the economy before the Great Depression. There are some similarities, but there are also some important differences.
It is important to note that economists do not agree on whether or not the world is headed for another Great Depression. Some economists believe that the similarities between today’s economy and the economy before the Great Depression are significant, and that there is a real risk of another depression. Other economists believe that the differences between today’s economy and the economy before the Great Depression are more significant, and that the risk of another depression is low.
Only time will tell whether or not the world is headed for another Great Depression. However, it is important to be aware of the risks and to take steps to protect yourself and your family in the event of a recession.
