Home Prices are Crashing

Many home prices are now dropping in cities across America in 2024, with values set to decline in the second half of the year in many Sun Belt Housing Markets across states like Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Tennessee.

One should keep in mind that all real estate activity is local. Sure you can make generalizations for cities and even States but when it comes down to neighborhoods there’s quite a bit of variation in values.

This is why it’s invaluable if you’re thinking of either buying or selling, you enlist the services of a professional real estate broker.

There are a couple of reasons why home prices might be going down in some major cities:

  • More homes on the market: After a period of low inventory, more houses are becoming available for purchase. This increased supply catches up with, or even surpasses, the demand, leading to a softening of prices [US cities with falling home prices].
  • Shifting work patterns: The pandemic-driven work-from-home trend is cooling off in some places. If people are returning to offices, they may be less interested in bigger houses in suburbs and more likely to consider smaller options closer to their workplaces. This could affect demand in those suburban areas.

It’s important to note that even though prices are dropping in some areas, mortgage rates have also been rising. This can mean that even though the purchase price is lower, the monthly payment might not be much different
