it’s sad to see the devastation this hurricane brought to not only Florida but North Carolina and other southeastern states.
From a real estate standpoint, I think the most important thing we can learn from this, is the importance of working with a seasoned local real estate professional when purchasing any property. When the real state market is hot, a lot of people don’t heed some of the disclosure information that could potentially affect the properties. I mean everyone is different, and as long as you understand the risk that you may face, and decide to culminate the purchase anyway, that’s fine! It’s the understanding of the potential risk, not only to Florida or hurricane prone areas, but any area that could be impacted by a natural disaster.
This also brings up the other point, of why a potential purchaser should never skip the optional home inspection, prior to purchase. In a sense, paying for this report, is cheap insurance, because you can evaluate the potential cost of not only unseen damage but also future maintenance by carefully reviewing these reports.
